1960s Mesh Rhinestone Necklace - Unusual Construction

Any opinions on this? Great piece, it is saying 1960s to me, please tell me if I am wrong. The back of the piece shows some very unusual construction. Has anyone ever seen it before? Strange back setting.. Repousse setting with a back plate with a repousse dimple set in a bezel.. Any name for it?
