Photo Technique #2 - Wrong Colors!
Published Date: March 28th, 2007Category: How To, Photo Techniques
Are you trying to photograph a piece of jewelry, but can’t seem to get the correct color? Well, you may want to consider changing the color of the background you are using. I find that using complementary colors often helps capture the correct colors. Check out the color wheel below.

This wheel is a great reference to use when trying to decide a background. If you have an orange pin, try using a blue background. It will help the orange pin stand out. See the picture below to get an idea.

Please note, however, that taking several different shots is best. Using the complementary color may not always be the best pick. Experiment with different backgrounds and you will start to learn what types of items look best on certain backgrounds. For instance, a silver necklace may look better on a dark black background, but it could also work on a lighter blue. Most importantly, make sure you have plenty of light. If your lighting is sparce you will most likely have a dark object. Good luck and happy picture taking!
